Every time I saw a cigar like this I remember my grandfather who smoke and use this kind of cigarette…

He would say that this is best cigar for him. Recently I came across a forum where one of the topics is about gas station cigars. I’m not familiar with it so I checked how it looks like. And was surprised it was almost the same with what my grandfather was using. By the way I’m not a smoker though I have tried smoking during my yuppie days. :)

While wiping dust on our lcd tv this morning, I was thinking of putting a cover on it to minimize the dust and that it will be protected at the same time. I haven’t seen any lcd tv cover yet so I searched on google for ideas and options on that case. And voila! I found some cute and cool lcd cover that can be customized. See some photos below..

Creating the cover with our own photo or style is possible or maybe match with the color motif of the house or just a solid color for simpler, more elegant finish. I guess I will pick with a simple design and plain color at the back. So it doesn’t matter if you have a sony, LG or samsung tvs lcd, making a custom cover for your tv is possible. Taking up short training would be one of my agendas this year. Since I was out from work for 5 years as stay-at-home-mom, it’s just hard to get back to workforce with a lot of technology changes. Other option is to apply as trainee in a company where you will be part of their bootcamp on new software. Either it will be on IT related or performance management software, I believe this is a good step to be able to go working again. Just need a little sacrifice and more patience in learning new things, steps toward a successful career.

I know it will be next month but I’m thinking of getting a new laptop or maybe netbook as a birthday gift for myself. Aside from the Christmas day and the New Year, we’re looking forward for the coming of my elder brother’s baby soon. Aside from shopping Christmas gift, another thing that keep me busy last weekend was setting up a new domain for release next year. It should be finished before the holidays so it will be in good use as the start of 2011. Good thing I’ve found this directory submission software as it needs to jump up on the search engine ranking since the site is very new. And that’s one important factor if you want your website to be on the first page of the search engine. Hopefully all works be finished on Friday…

Nice living room

One of my fondest dreams is to have our own house and I could decorate it the way I wanted. I really admire those houses with a nice interior design and I’m always hoping I could decorate just the same. Like for instance the photos below.

I love how simple the living room is. Very neat. The big wall décor is a nice addition. For the couch, I was thinking futon covers is nice to use for this.

Next year one of my plans is to enroll in a short course of other programming language. I just thought it would be helpful for me to get a job having a new knowledge. My first option is look first for an accredited online degree. This is more advantage since I do take care of my son plus I don’t need to go to school and mingle with the traffic everyday… If that’s not possible, I have to check some school nearby. But I do hope the first option will work so there’s no hassle for me going out everyday… Hopefully my plans will be successful and I can achieve the goal I wanted.

exercise at home

While I’m still on search for a new fat burner that will work best for me, a friend of mine suggested some exercise that I can do at home. She knows how determined I am to lose weight… Here are some of the exercises:

a. Do a 30-second hard exercise like running in place.
b. Do a one-minute moderate exercise like casual jogging or brisk walking.
c. Have a 2- side flexion exercise like side crunches or bends. d. Have a 2-forward flexion exercise like sit ups.
e. Have a 2-rotational exercise like trunk rotation and standing twists.

I really need to discipline myself and follow a strict schedule so I can do the above exercise at home. Sometimes I feel lazy and just wanted to sit in front of pc that I should have been burning some fats… haha.. Need to change that bad habit...

It surprised me to see a lot of beauty salon evolve right now. In our nearby village alone, there are 3 -4 salons almost the same area and located side by side. Each has their own promotions and marketing strategy to attract customers. That gives me an idea that the beauty business looks promising, isn’t? No wonder the beauty school in Phoenix is gaining a lot of students. Not only they provide a quality cosmetology education, they also teach their students for a beauty business in the future. Now I’m thinking why not take a short course on cosmetology and try this new venture.

You just simply combine the ingredients and freeze if needed for a lovely and sweet treat. Here’s one recipe that I wanted to share and I’m sure all kids and adults alike will love it- the chocolate bonbon pops…

Ingredients
18 chocolate sandwich cookies with cream filling
1-1/2 cups pecans, toasted
2 Tbsp. orange liqueur or orange juice
1 Tbsp. light color corn syrup
2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
20 lollipop sticks
1 12-oz. pkg. milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate pieces
1 Tbsp. shortening
directions
1. In large food processor bowl combine cookies and 3/4 cup of the nuts; pulse until cookies are crushed. Add orange liqueur, corn syrup, and cocoa powder; process until combined. Add remaining nuts; pulse until coarsely chopped.

2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Shape cookie mixture in 1-inch balls. Place on baking sheet, insert a lollipop stick, and freeze for 30 minutes.

3. In a small saucepan combine chocolate pieces and shortening. Cook and stir over medium-low heat just until melted. Remove from heat. Dip pops in chocolate. Return to baking sheet. Loosely cover and refrigerate 1 hour or until chocolate is set. If using liqueur, flavor will mellow after a day or two. Makes 20 pops.

4. To Store: Place in covered container; refrigerate up to 1 week.

Here’s how to do it in case you love to try also:

Ingredients:
24 brown mini M&Ms plus , more for filling (optional)
Hershey's Chocolate Cupcakes
Dirty Green Simple Buttercream
12 chocolate sugar cones
1 pound black licorice laces, cut into 1/4-inch, 1/2-inch and 2-inch lengths
12 candy corns

Directions:
Using a melon baller, scoop out the center of each cupcake, and fill with mini M&Ms, if desired.
Cover the tops of each cupcake with a generous mound (about 1/3 cup) of buttercream. Insert one candy corn into each cupcake to form a nose. Using brown mini M&Ms, insert two into each cupcake to form eyes. Place two short lengths of licorice above the eyes to form eyebrows for the witch. Place the shorter licorice lengths above the eyebrows to form bangs. Place an inverted cone on top of bangs, pressing gently into buttercream to adhere. Place the longer licorice lengths under the cone hat to form the hair.

Yield: 2 dozen cookies (serving size: 1 cookie)

Ingredients
1. 1 cup all-purpose flour
2. 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
3. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
4. 1/8 teaspoon salt
5. 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
6. 2/3 cup granulated sugar
7. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8. 1 large egg white
9. Cooking spray
10. 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
11. 3 tablespoons 2% reduced-fat milk

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt, stirring well with a whisk. Place shortening in a large mixing bowl; beat with a heavy-duty mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy. Gradually add the granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until well blended. Add vanilla and egg white; beat well. Add flour mixture; beat until well blended.
Turn dough out onto wax paper; shape into a 6-inch log. Wrap log in wax paper. Freeze 2 hours or until very firm.
Cut log into 24 (1/4-inch) slices, and place slices 1 inch apart on baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes or until set. Remove from pans; cool completely on wire racks.
Combine powdered sugar and milk in a medium bowl; stir well with a whisk until smooth. Spoon into a small zip-top plastic bag; seal. Snip a tiny hole in 1 corner of bag. Working with 1 cookie at a time, pipe 3 concentric circles onto each cookie. Starting at center circle, pull a wooden pick through other circles at regular intervals to create a "web."

Nursing Board Exam result

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announces that 37,679 out of 91,008 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given by the Board of Nursing last July 2010. The result was released yesterday and base on the report, the percentage of students who passed this year is higher compared to last years’ result. That’s definitely good news and I’m sure these board passers will start looking for their respective healthcare jobs soon.

Mushrooms and Pasta

My son loves mushrooms. So when I saw this recipe online, I didn’t think twice I saved it for later reference. I’m sure my little boy would like this mushrooms and pasta together. Since the time I stayed here with my parents, I haven’t baked and cooked the way I do before so I’m trying to get back on track again.

Here’s the recipe in case you like to try as well:

Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
3 cloves garlic, minced
12 oz. fresh button mushrooms, halved or quartered (4-1/2 cups)
1 Tbsp. snipped fresh thyme or 1 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese (2 oz.)
3 cup hot cooked pasta
Snipped fresh parsley (optional)

Directions:
1. In a large skillet heat butter and oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until onion is tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in mushrooms, thyme, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper. Cook 4 to 5 minutes more or until mushrooms are tender and lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add cream. Bring just to boiling; reduce heat. Boil gently, uncovered, for 2 to 3 minutes or until thickened. Stir in cheese until melted.

2. To serve, place hot cooked pasta in serving bowl. Spoon mushroom sauce over pasta. Sprinkle with parsley.

Purchasing a home is considered to be a biggest financial investment. We didn’t invest before but now we believe it’s the right time to make our dream house come true. Though it’s not that easy and a lot of things to consider, I know slowly we can get right into it. So as early as now I’m searching cheap home insurance that would fit into our budget. Scouting for information about this protective plan should be part when you want to buy your own house. And it’s best to do it as early as possible.

By the way, we don’t intend to buy a big house. But I like the photo above and that inspired me to push with this plan. :)

Packing Tips for traveling

Packing things when going on vacation is one of the hard things to do especially if you need to pack for the whole family. And to tell you honestly I’m not good with it… and whenever we have our trip I always end up cramming, ha!
So I said the next time we'll have our trip, I make sure I'll do it ahead of time... and of course I checked some tips on how to avoid those rush as I don't want to have things left behind...

Pack in Plastic. Pack everything in clear plastic bags (preferably zip lock), divided into items e.g. underwear, t-shirts, shorts etc. before packing in your suitcase or backpack. One plastic bag for each type of clothing. This is extremely useful in various ways. When you unpack your bag you just take out a series of bags and you can see immediately what you want. So an overnight stay somewhere just means taking 1 item out of a bag - no rummaging!!

Minimize on Toiletries. Take only half a tube of toothpaste rolled up tight, store shampoo in small containers, only take half a roll of toilet paper (for emergencies only) and crush it so the middle is folded. If you need to bring medicines or your best weight loss supplements, bring only what you needed for the trip.

Diaper Bag.If you are travelling with babies, then the diaper bag is an excellent place to hide your valuables. This most likely will not be the first thing to be stolen. It's also a great to use as a waste bag (even when not travelling with a child!), especially at places that do not allow you to flush toilet paper.

Backpack Tips. When you are packing things into a backpack, place the lighter items at the bottom and the heavier ones on top. Your bag will feel lighter this way as the pack rests on your lower back. It is also smart to place the things you use the most on top. Dirty clothes are perfect to pack at the bottom of a backpack.

Carry on. Keep any medication and important papers in your carry-on bag. On long flights with multiple stopovers (especially if flying via London, LA or other major airports), packing a fresh change of clothes is a good idea as bags tend to get delayed or lost on long haul, multiple stop flights. You don't want to end up stuck without medication, clothes or your important papers even if it is just for a few days.

These are just few of the packing tips, which I find useful especially to me.

I’m trying to focus with my goal on losing weight. I usually read various tips and try to follow, which I think fit with me. I'm actually particular with stomach fat loss so lately I’m tracking on what I’m eating.

I want to share this diet tip I got recently. Let's do it together. It’s called diet trouble-shooting: keep a 7-day food diary.
Write down everything you eat or drink for the next 7 days. Everything means everything, except water. And don’t be surprised if you find you’re eating a lot of extra food items and calories. According to several weight loss studies, a high proportion of people who are overweight tend to forget what they eat. Keeping a strict 7-day food diary will help you remember.

I haven’t started this yet but I will next week. So if you’re not losing weight don’t automarically blame the diet. Chances are, you’re not following it properly… and admittedly I’m guilty of that. :D
